Path of a Ninja turns into Young Ninjas - the future stars of Sweden

Lukas Berć @ 2020-12-23 15:18:18 +0100

A little more than two weeks ago we announced Path of a Ninja, the talent program we believe will be the key to fostering a new generation of Swedish CS:GO players. Chief Operating Officer Jonas Gundersen explained that the program was meant "to support the underlying ecosystem and provide ways into a potential academy team in the future".

It seems as the future arrived faster than we expected.

We are now announcing Young Ninjas: a team for budding superstars to represent - a rock steady home to bloom. We will continue to work with Area Academy in scouting, recruiting and supporting a new generation of players, but instead of only picking one or two talents for every season of Elitserien in CS:GO, we’ll provide an Academy Team banner for a wider pool of talents to play under.

The Sensei chosen to set Young Ninjas on the right path is none other than former Counter-Strike 1.6 professional Fredrik “JAEGARN” Andersson, who has extensive experience working with youngsters in different projects, currently serving as Head of Education at Area Academy. Let’s hear from the brain behind this project, Jonas Gundersen:

The recent season of Elitserien really made waves. It truly warms my heart to see how far CS:GO has evolved in all the Nordic countries, especially within the grassroots, so it only makes sense to commit even more at this point. A guy like Fredrik has been around forever, and the work with Area Academy just makes for the perfect skill set to lead this project for us. The passion for youth development in him is great to feel.

As the first move, Young Ninjas has already acquired Erik “ztr” Gustafsson from the Spanish organization KPI. Erik started playing CS:GO six years ago and made a name for himself in 2019 when he represented Prima eSports in Elitserien and ESEA Advanced. Jonas Gundersen continues:

There’s great talent out there and I am very excited to already have Erik on board to spearhead the project. A great guy with an incredible work ethic and mindset. Excited about seeing the team evolve and compete, as we continue to add the final pieces.
